Three U.S. Peacekeepers in Kosovo were murdered by a Jordanian peacekeeper on April 17. I did a search of the Minneapolis Star Tribune archives going back 60 days and there’s no mention of it. By searching on Google News, I can find 14 stories.
The United Nations Oil-For-Food scandal. I did a search of the Strib going back to January 2004 and I found one story on it. Much of that story concerns Chalabi’s efforts to be reimbursed for the work he did on uncovering the scandal. There’s very little on the scandal itself and nothing on the on-going coverup. There are almost 1500 stories in Google News; I obviously didn’t read through all of them to see if they were relevant.
Searching the Strib website for Abu Ghraib returns 140 stories. There are 15 mentions of Nick Berg; several of the mentions occur in letters to the editor and one is Jeff Jacoby’s column criticizing the media’s refusal to show the Nick Berg video while plastering the Abu Ghraib photos everywhere.
Call me naïve, but I’m stunned by how blatant the media bias has become since the 2000 elections. There’s always been a bias, but this burying of stories that they don’t like and full-out blitz on stories to damage the administration and the country seem beyond the usual slanting to me. The UN oil-for-food scandal is being covered up and the cover up is being covered up and it’s being done by the people you usually expect to uncover stuff. Who ya gonna call?
